The Triple-A baseball team formerly known as the Oklahoma City Dodgers announced today that they will rebrand for the 2025 season. The announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of a series of interim logos that will be used for the 2024 season, along with the decision to ditch their existing name in favor of the generic nickname Oklahoma City Baseball Club for one year.
The OKC franchise had been called the Dodgers since 2015, when they were purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers. One major reason for the decision to use a generic brand in 2024 rather than stay with the existing Dodgers name for one last season is that the team is no longer owned by the big-league club. The franchise was sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings in 2021.
The temporary 2024 brand features a mishmash of versions of the team’s most recent suite of logos, along with a throwback to the 89ers, who played 1962-1997. The team will play as the 89ers on Thursdays in 2024. (Notably absent from the temporary suite of logos is any reference to the Oklahoma City RedHawks, who played from 1998 to 2008.)
The team’s uniform set includes home whites, road grays, and blue alternates, along with an 89ers alternate and a “city” brand that features the script “Oklahoma City” in the typeface Brush Script.
The collection of hats is highlighted by a tri-tone 89ers cap featuring a character in a pill-box cap.
With the rebranding of the Rome Braves and the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the number of affiliated minor league baseball clubs named for their parent club is now 12, a mere 10 percent of all teams.
