The Oklahoma State football program unveiled new uniforms on Wednesday morning that combine the Cowboys’ classic striping pattern with a modern font and template.
The new uniforms, which are on Nike’s new Vapor Fusion/F.U.S.E. template, include four different jerseys: orange, black, white with orange lettering and white with black lettering.
The jerseys are a nod to the 1980s, with an “Oklahoma State” wordmark above the numbers and a striping pattern on the sleeves, worn by some of the Cowboys’ all-time greats like Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.
Oklahoma State actually honored the pair by wearing throwback uniforms celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sanders winning the Heisman Trophy in 2018 and Thomas’ induction into the Cowboys’ ring of honor in 2020.
Meanwhile, the typeface used in the wordmark – which is called Cimarron – was developed internally by Oklahoma State in 2019. It brings a modern touch to the classic look, as the 1980s design had a standard block font.
The jerseys will be paired with stripeless orange, black or white pants that feature the Cowboys’ primary logo on the right hip, as well as a white, orange or black helmet, which have the classic stripes down the center.
The helmets don’t appear to have set decals, as Oklahoma State’s primary logo, the script Cowboys wordmark, the Pistol Pete head and the full-body Pistol Pete will likely be interchangeable moving forward.
This marks Oklahoma State’s first uniform update since 2016, replacing the set that included a barbed wire font and incorporated various aspects of the Cowboys’ program into a paisley print on the collar and cuffs.
Alongside Florida State last month, Oklahoma State’s update now leaves Purdue as the last Power Five program to be wearing Nike’s Mach Speed template, which was introduced during the 2013 bowl season.
The Cowboys will debut their new look when they kick off the 2023 season against Central Arkansas on Sept. 2.
