The Oregon State football program will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its victory in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl by wearing throwback uniforms during Saturday’s game against Arizona State (10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN).
The all-black Nike uniforms are much simpler than what the team wears now, as they feature white numbers with an orange drop shadow and an orange collar and cuffs. There’s also a throwback “Beavers” script on the chest.
The helmet displays the program’s “Angry Beaver” logo on both sides, where it was from 1999 until an athletic department-wide rebrand in 2012. That same logo, sans the script, can be seen on the left hip, as well.
Oregon State went 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the Pac-10 in 2000, sharing the conference title with Washington and Oregon – the Beavers’ first conference title since 1964. They finished the season with a 41-9 win over No. 10 Notre Dame to reach 11 wins, which remains a program record to this day.
The program will induct that team and former head coach Dennis Erickson, who also led the Sun Devils from 2007-11, into its athletics Hall of Fame on Friday night. They’ll also be honored during Saturday’s game.
