Orlando Magic Unveil New Citrus-Themed Uniforms

Whoever had anthracite and orange on their City Colours BINGO card, congratulations!

The Orlando Magic this morning unveiled their new City Edition uniform for the 2019-20 season, it’s a design and colour scheme that has very little to do with the history or identity of the team itself but (as the name of the series would suggest) is entirely focused on the City of Orlando.

It’s an anthracite (dark grey) base with orange trim around the collar and striping down the sides. Across the chest in orange with white trim is “ORL”, the common three-letter abbreviation used for Orlando, the player’s number below in the same colour and font.

The shorts have an orange version of the Magic’s usual wordmark at the waistband and their logo on the sides. Orange striping continues down from the jersey onto the sides of the shorts and cuts across the front about an inch or two from the end of the pant leg.

It’s a tribute to Central Florida’s association with the orange and citrus industry.

“We really wanted to come up with a jersey that was really reflective of our city and our market and we believe that we’ve hit on it,’’ Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins said to the team’s official website. “Orange is in the roots of our entire area, whether it’s the citrus industry or Orange County or Orange Avenue. We really wanted to be reflective of that and we’re excited about it.’’

The Magic are the second southeastern NBA team to unveil a new uniform which pays tribute to both a fruit and a local street this month.

According to the post on NBA.com, the version of the uniform unveiled today was the 12th iteration of the design with the process taking over two years to complete beginning to end. Also mentioning that the team’s new City Edition uniform for next season was recently finalized and the process for the 2021-22 design will begin immediately.

Orlando will debut their new orange and anthracite uniforms at home against the NBA champs on Nov 29th along with a specially-designed court to match the new colour scheme. In total, the Magic will wear the new look sixteen times in 2019-2020, the full schedule below:
