Paris Saint-Germain Activates Dark Mode for 2021-22 Third Kit

French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain are embracing the darkness for their 2021-22 third kit, made by Nike.

The shirt is mainly black, with one broad grey stripe across the chest and narrower grey stripes above and below. The club crest is placed in the centre of the chest, and is rendered in “electric red” and black.

The shirt is “inspired by the shirts in which the club has dazzled since the 1990s and which have remained etched in the Parisian supporters’ memories,” according to the club’s website.

“Because its colours are so restrained, the 21/22 Third strip is the perfect backdrop to highlight the exploits of the Parisian players, particularly on the European stage where their appearances are eagerly anticipated by football lovers across the globe.”

Interestingly, the Nike logo does not appear on the front of the shirt at all. Instead, there is an electric red Nike swoosh on each sleeve. The swoosh on the right sleeve is reversed to maintain the perception of forward motion — as Nike does on the sleeves of National Football League uniforms.

The grey chest stripes do not continue to the back of the shirt; it is solid black, with white names and numbers. The sponsor logo on the front of the shirt sits in the middle of the broad grey stripe and is rendered in white. The crew neck collar is black in the front and grey in the back.

The shirt uses Nike’s Dri-FIT ADV template, which features a subtle wave texture radiating out from the collar. This template is also being used for LiverpoolTottenham Hotspur, FC Barcelona and other high-profile clubs with Nike deals.

The shorts and socks for this kit are black, with electric red logos and white numbers and lettering. The shorts have a glossy black stripe running down each side.

The black and grey third kit joins PSG’s Jordan-branded home kit and their white away kit to round out the club’s jerseys for 2021-22.
