The Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos will pay tribute to all branches of US Military and honor the military legacy of Ted Williams’ during Salute to Service Night tonight. They’ll wear customized jerseys and give away a Ted Williams “Bronsons Bombers” bobblehead.
The jerseys, presented by the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, will feature call signs rather than last names on the back. The players’ call signs were chosen by their teammates.
Ted Williams famously sacrificed three years of his MLB career to serve in the US Marine Corps during World War II. The Blue Wahoos will pay special tribute to the two times Williams was stationed at Naval Air Station-Pensacola.
The bobblehead giveaway features Williams at age 25 wearing the Bronson baseball uniform that he donned while playing on an all-star team when he was stationed at NAS-Pensacola. (Bronson Field was an auxiliary airfield located close to NAS-Pensacola.)
The Salute to Service Night game against the Montgomery Biscuits will take place tonight, August 18, at 6:35pm.
