Pierogi Power! AHL’s Cleveland Monsters Rebrand As ‘Pierogies’ for Weekend Series

The Cleveland Monsters are hoping to get a boost from some pierogi power next weekend.

The American Hockey League team will rebrand as the Cleveland Pierogies for their home games on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in celebration of Northeast Ohio’s significant Polish population.

The alternate identity includes an anthropomorphic hockey-playing pierogi logo that sits on the front of a white jersey. The jersey also has broad wavy red stripes with black outlines around the waist and sleeves, along with a red collar with white laces at the front.

Each shoulder features a roundel logo with “CLEVELAND PIEROGIES HOCKEY CLUB” written around the outside. Inside is a pierogi with a bite taken out of it to form a C sitting on top of a Polish flag.

Numbers on the back and sleeves are the same light brown colour as the skating pierogi on the front with a black outline and set in a rounded font. Names on the back are black and set in the same font.

Along with the jerseys, the Monsters are introducing a new pierogi mascot for the weekend, although it doesn’t have a name yet. Fans can enter their name ideas for a chance to win prizes here.

There’s no indication on the Monsters’ website or social media channels if game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off or if replica jerseys will be available for purchase. Their Instagram account did show a line of hats, T-shirts, hoodies and other merchandise, but those were not yet available to buy on the team’s online shop as of publication.

Puck drop for both games between the Pierogies and the Penguins is at 7 p.m. ET at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
