The newest incarnation of the legendary New York Cosmos franchise is channeling their look from the 1970s for the home kits for their inaugural season in USL League One in 2026.
The Cosmos unveiled the kits — created in partnership with manufacturer Capelli Sport and Mark Jenkinson from design studio BastionFC — on their website and social media channels on Thursday, December 11. The predominantly green look harkens back to the club’s days in the North American Soccer League, where they played from 1970 to 1985 and boasted the likes of Brazilian legend Pelé and Italian international forward Giorgio Chinaglia on their roster.
The green shirt features tonal stripes woven into the front of the jersey. White piping runs from the white crew neck collar to the underarms on both sides, and white panels run to about halfway down each side. Sleeve cuffs are solid white, and four white squares — a signature design element of Capelli — sit on each shoulder.

“Ask any generation of fan who watched the Cosmos play. When you turn on the TV, see historic clips or look at the iconic photos, the Cosmos in green are unmistakable. There have been so many historic moments in this color and we are excited to continue that story.”
— Erik Stover, CEO, New York Cosmos
The kits shown in Thursday’s announcement didn’t have a front-of-shirt sponsor, nor did they have names or numbers on the back.
The Cosmos will play out of Hinchcliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey. The stadium is a National Historical Landmark that was once home to Negro League baseball teams like the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans and the Newark Eagles. It reopened in 2023 after renovations converted it into a 7,800-seat multi-sport venue.
The original New York Cosmos began playing in the NASL in 1970, and they played their home games at three different stadiums around New York before finally settling at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in 1977 (which led to the team briefly going by just “Cosmos” for two seasons). During the 1975 season, the Cosmos made a huge splash by signing Pelé. They then signed Chinaglia the next season. The second incarnation of the Cosmos played in the revived NASL from 2010 to 2019, winning Soccer Bowl championships in 2013, 2015 and 2016. In 2020, they played in the NISA’s fall season, but then suspended operations in late January 2021, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new iteration of the Cosmos is majority owned by Baye Adofo-Wilson, the co-owner and developer of Hinchliffe Stadium. Adofo-Wilson’s corporation, North Jersey Pro Soccer, bought the Cosmos’ intellectual and physical property, history and heritage from New York Cosmos LLC, controlled by Rocco B. Commisso, in January 2017.
The Cosmos’ new crest was unveiled in July 2025. They’ll open their 2026 USL League One season at home against Portland Hearts of Pine on Saturday, March 14.
