Reno Aces introduce historic Silver Sox alternate identity

The Triple-A Reno Aces will revive a classic brand from their hometown’s past next season, playing select games as the Reno Silver Sox, honoring a minor league team that played off and on from 1947 to 1992. The Silver Sox, named for the “Silver State” of Nevada, played most of their tenure in the California League as an affiliate of seven different MLB franchises.

The Silver Sox brand that the Aces will wear is new, while paying tribute to those that came before. The script evokes versions that previous iterations of the team wore, and the color palette features both navy and royal blue, worn by different teams over the years, along with metallic silver and white.

The logo set includes an original desert jackass primary, as well as a sleeve patch highlighting the state of Nevada. (The branding is distinct from that worn by an independent Silver Sox team that played in the Golden League from 2006 to 2008.)

The original Silver Sox, who won four California League titles and produced over 20 MLB All-Stars, played three miles south of the Aces current home. They’ll take the field next season for the first time in more than three decades.
