The San Jose Sharks are planning to unveil a new alternate uniform in the coming days.
Yesterday afternoon, the team’s official X (Twitter) account posted a series of photos showing a new set of black breezers with teal and white striping down the side, as well as new black gloves. The Sharks do not wear black pants and haven’t since the 2021-22 season, so, you know, this is clearly something new.

This looks to be the same pants style that was worn with the original San Jose Sharks uniforms from 1991-92 until the 1996-97 season; the black pants remained in 1997-98 but without the side striping.
A day before the Sharks teased this, Twitter user Carter Richard posted the following – claiming it showed details of a new black alternate jersey featuring the Sharks alternate fin logo as the large crest on the chest, their 2015 Stadium Series patch re-coloured and placed on the shoulders, and a shark-toothed pattern on the inside collar:
It looks promising… if it’s legit, of course.
Putting aside the idea of yet another Sharks black alternate uniform for a moment (this will be their fourth different black alternate jersey design since 2007!), the addition of black pants and (presumably) a black helmet to the team’s uniform rotation gives us some interesting possibilities. Now that the league is allowing helmet and pants mixing, could we see the return of black pants and buckets with the teal home sweaters, for instance? This pairing was arguably the Sharks’ best look over their history, and it would be nice to see how that would look with their current sweater design.
I threw together a quick, rough Photoshop, and it looks good together! I might be more excited about this than the new sweater.
If the Sharks are already wearing the new gear in practice, as the original Sharks Tweet suggests, it’s only a matter of days before we see this on the ice in an actual game. Let’s stay tuned.
