Seattle Seahawks Won’t Wear Throwback Uniforms In 2022

With the NFL doing away with its one-helmet rule for the 2022 season and beyond, the expectation is that a number of teams will unveil throwback uniforms that feature a different color helmet than their primary design.

You can count the Seattle Seahawks among them, but team president Chuck Arnold said during a recent radio appearance that it just won’t happen this fall.

“We’re getting closer,” Arnold told Dave “Softy” Mahler on 950 KJR. “We won’t see it in 2022, but we’re making really good progress. We know the fans are going to love the throwbacks.”

Arnold also noted that Nike and the NFL’s other manufacturers need time to produce the jerseys and corresponding merchandise for retail, which is why 2023 is likely the earliest that Seattle will reveal the throwback uniforms.

The Seahawks wore silver helmets with totem-style logo on the sides and a gray or royal blue facemask from their inception in 1976 through a redesign in 2002. Those helmets were worn with either a royal blue or white jersey with contrasting numbers and green accents, as well as the aforementioned logo wrapped around the sleeves.

Seattle wore a “Seahawks Blue” helmet from 2002-2011 and has worn a navy blue helmet since 2012, which is when Nike took over as the league’s manufacturer and they underwent their most recent uniform redesign.
