Super Bowl LVI Uniforms, Logos, and More!

What uniforms will the Bengals and Rams wear for Super Bowl LVI? Who is the home team? Where is the game played? What time does the game start? What about the Super Bowl LVI logo? This post is here to answer all those questions for you and, where information is not yet available, will be updated as soon as that information is announced.

SUPER BOWL LVI UNIFORMS

The Bengals will be wearing black jerseys with white pants for Super Bowl LVI

The Cincinnati Bengals will be wearing black jerseys with white pants and orange socks at Super Bowl LVI.

As the designated home team for Super Bowl LVI, the Bengals got the first choice of what uniform they’d be wearing for the game. They chose to go with their typical home uniform — black tops worn over their white pants with orange tiger striping up the side. There was some thought the Bengals might do as other lower-seeded Super Bowl teams have done in the past and opt to wear their road uniforms. The thinking there would have been to keep on going with the same uniforms they’d be wearing throughout the NFL Playoffs, but alas, they opted to make it feel as much like a home game as they could inside their opponent’s building.

As for the Los Angeles Rams, despite playing in their home stadium, they will be the road team for Super Bowl LVI, which means they were at the mercy of the Bengals when it comes to uniform choices. If Cincinnati had opted to wear white, the Rams would have been able to wear their blue tops with yellow “sol” pants as they had done throughout their playoff run in 2021. Of course, this didn’t happen, forcing the Rams to go with white.

The Rams will wear their alternate “modern retro” jersey with yellow pants

The Rams have two different white jerseys to choose from, their regular road off-white “bone” set and their alternate “modern retro” standard white option. The NFL generally discourages and has outright banned teams from going with their alternate jerseys in the past, but somehow the Rams were able to convince the league to let them wear their (far superior) alternate set. Keeping with what they’ve worn thus far throughout the playoffs, the Rams are pairing this top with their “yellow sol” pants.

Before either of the teams had made their decision I presented a Super Bowl uniform flowchart, I’ve updated it below to reflect the final decisions by each club:

SUPER BOWL LVI LOGOS

Super Bowl LVI Primary Logo

The Super Bowl LVI logo was designed by the National Football League’s graphic design department. It continues the basic theme first used for Super Bowl XLV in February 2011, and it again places focus on the Vince Lombardi Trophy with the SUPER BOWL wordmark placed across a metallic bar. There are differences this year versus previous Super Bowl logos in that they’ve now incorporated some graphics into the Roman numerals — in this case a silhouette of palm trees (no, they’re not gunshot wounds, as many on social media had suggested) — as well as some much-needed colour, a red-to-yellow gradient representing a sunset.

There are no alternate logos for the Super Bowl, just slight variations of the primary, including some with the host city of Los Angeles written below the logo. There is a little colour change to the “Los Angeles” bit when that specific version of the logo is placed on a dark background.

This is now the twelfth Super Bowl game since the NFL went to the standardized system for the game during the 2010 season. For our younger readers, there was a time when the Super Bowl was given a unique design every year; it was kinda fun waiting to see what the logo would look like each year!

I loved that era. After all, I would be able to remember the details of each game a lot better because I could associate teams and big plays with the unique logo for each game. Like, I immediately know the Arizona Cardinals played in Super Bowl XLIII because I remember that green and blue patch on their jerseys, or that the Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL, again because of the patch — you look at the logo for Super Bowl XXVIII, and there’s no mistaking that it was played in Atlanta, Georgia. We don’t get that anymore.

WHO IS THE HOME TEAM FOR SUPER BOWL LVI

The AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals will be the designated home team for Super Bowl LVI.

WHY IS CINCINNATI HOME TEAM FOR SUPER BOWL LVI?

The NFL rotates back-and-forth between the NFC and AFC champion to determine each year’s home team. Last year for Super Bowl LV, the NFC champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the home team, this year, it’s the AFC champion Bengals, and next year for Super Bowl LVII, it’ll be the NFC champion again. One way to remember it is even-numbered bowls are AFC years, and odd-numbered bowls go to the NFC.

If it’s an Olympic year, you see,
The Super Bowl home team is from the AFC.

SUPER BOWL LVI PROGRAM COVER

The Super Bowl LVI program cover resembles a Hollywood movie poster. It reads “STARRING” across the top with the two participating teams listed below; there’s also that stacked text that always accompanies movie posters re-worked to be themed towards the game and host city.

WHERE IS SUPER BOWL LVI BEING PLAYED?

This year, the Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, home of the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are just the second team in NFL history to play in a Super Bowl held at their home stadium. Oddly enough, the first time it ever happened was just last year when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, during Super Bowl LV.

WHEN IS THE SUPER BOWL?

Super Bowl LVI will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022; kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET (3:30 pm PT).

The field design for Super Bowl LVI features the Bengals with a black end zone, their “B” logo to the left and their wordmark in white to the right. The Los Angeles Rams have a blue endzone with their “LA” logo next to “RAMS” in white italics. At the 50-yard line is the NFL shield logo, and the Super Bowl LVI logos are placed at each 25-yard mark.

SUPER BOWL LVI HALFTIME SHOW

The halftime show for Super Bowl LVI will feature a series of 1990s rappers, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and the more recent Kendrick Lamar.
