EA Sports announced on Thursday morning that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will share the cover of Madden NFL 22, marking just the second time ever that two athletes will be featured on the cover of the video game.
The only other time it happened was in 2009 (Madden 10) when former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald were on the cover following their matchup in Super Bowl XLII.
The same thing happened this time around, as Brady got the better of Mahomes in Super Bowl LV.
Interestingly, both of those games were played in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. And in both cases, the players are wearing the uniforms they wore in the Super Bowl, with Brady in white and Mahomes in red.
Brady now becomes the first Buccaneer to grace the cover of the video game, though this is his second appearance, as he was also on the cover of Madden 18. Mahomes was also on the cover two years ago (Madden 20).
Other editions of Madden have featured legendary Oakland Raiders head coach John Madden or a single athlete. Until this year, no player had been featured twice.
If you preorder now, Madden NFL 22 will be available to play on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S and PC on Aug. 17. Otherwise, it will be in stores one week later.
