Toronto Blue Jays Announce TD Ad on Jerseys

Ah, I knew this day would come.

Earlier today, the Toronto Blue Jays announced they are adding a patch bearing the logo of TD onto their jersey sleeve; the patch will debut in tonight’s game at Toronto against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The press release from the team makes specific mention that the patch will be worn on the left sleeve of the jersey, so it seems certainly possible that the club is not switching arms based on if a player is a righty or lefty. The patch, like all MLB ad patches, will be worn across all of the club’s in-game uniforms. It will not be included on retail jerseys available to fans at this time.

“For nearly two decades, TD has served as an innovative sponsor of the Blue Jays, with a storied history and commitment to baseball,” said Anuk Karunaratne, Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Toronto Blue Jays in the press release. “TD has a passionate and meaningful presence in communities across the country and has played a critical role in helping to connect fans to the game we all love.”

The green patch measures 3″ x 3″ (or 7.62 cm by 7.62 cm) and features the company’s “TD” initials in white.

Toronto is the 14th Major League Baseball club to strike a deal for an advertisement to be worn on their jersey sleeves; the New York Yankees just announced their own deal earlier this week. The league permitted clubs to wear ads on their in-game uniforms starting with the 2023 season.

Frankly, I think the SportsLogos.Net logo would’ve made for a better match, colour-wise at least…

Dontcha think?
