Washington Capitals Bring Back Screaming Eagle Uniform for Three Seasons (or More)

You wanted the “Screagle”? Well, you got it!

The Washington Capitals, this morning, unveiled their new red third jersey built around the Capitals’ 1990s “Screaming Eagle” logo and the capital dome shoulder patch.

The entire set is recoloured in red, white, and blue to match the Capitals’ current colour scheme (the original ’90s version of this set featured a teal-like blue, with black and bronze accents). The base is red with a rounded white shoulder yoke and simple waist striping, a look that leans into the team’s 1970s/80s aesthetic. Front and centre is that classic Screaming Eagle logo diving downward, and paired with a white lace-up neckline. The 1990s Capitol Dome shoulder patch returns on the sleeves, also recoloured to match.

This isn’t the first time the Capitals have recoloured these logos to match the current set better; the first round of the Reverse Retro series in 2021 saw the entire ’90s uniform changed to red, white, and blue. In this case, it’s just the logos, now placed on the team’s 1970s base. It would fit right in with Nike’s NBA “MixTape” series, which we saw a few years back, combining several eras into one design.

Other details include three stars on the pants for the Caps fanbase across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. A District of Columbia flag hem loop on the back hem. Inside the back neck is a “Caps” wordmark. The jersey ad is for Coupang, placed on the upper right chest, matching the Capitals’ new home jersey ad.

Washington will wear their new “Screaming Eagle” jersey fifteen times, all at home, in 2025-26. It débuts on Thursday, October 17, against the Minnesota Wild. Because this is officially classified as a third jersey, it will be worn for at least three seasons.
