The WNBA news just keeps on coming! On the same day that the name and logo for the Toronto expansion franchise set to join the league in 2026 was officially released, another expansion franchise gave fans a look at what they’ll be wearing when they take the court.
The Golden State Valkyries will join the WNBA in 2025, and on the eve of their expansion draft, the team unveiled their Heroine Edition and Explorer Edition jerseys on their website and social media channels on Thursday, December 5.
Both jerseys make the bold move of including the Valkyries’ full primary logo — which was unveiled in May 2024 — on the front, pushing the front number off to the side.
The white Heroine Edition jersey has the primary logo on the front in black with “Valkyrie Violet” detailing. Both the front and back numbers are black with violet outlines, while the player’s name appears under the back number in black. Two black stripes run around the neck and down each side of the jersey. Sponsor logos appear on the left shoulder, under the front logo and under the player’s name on the back.
Meanwhile, the black Explorer Edition jersey features the logo on the front in one-color violet. The front and back numbers, along with the name on the back, are also violet. Two white stripes run around the neck and down each side.
Some WNBA teams have a third Rebel Edition jersey, but it appears Golden State will only have the two jerseys to start with.
Jerseys are not yet available for purchase, but fans can subscribe to a mailing list to be notified when they are.
The Valkyries’ expansion draft starts at 3:30 p.m. PT on Friday, December 6, and will be broadcast on ESPN. All active, non-protected players are available to be selected, and their contract status will be inherited by the new team.
The Valkyries open their inaugural WNBA season on Friday, May 16, when they host their cross-California rivals, the Los Angeles Sparks, at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
