WWE to Sponsor Seventh-Tier English Side Enfield Town FC

A formidable new tag team has emerged in English football, as World Wrestling Entertainment has signed a one-year deal to sponsor Enfield Town Football Club, a team in the seventh-tier Isthmian League Premier Division.

The deal was announced on Thursday, Aug. 19, and will see the logo of WWE’s NXT UK brand splashed on the front of Enfield Town’s home kits for the 2021-22 season.

Enfield Town plays out of Queen Elizabeth II Stadium in north London. WWE opened a training facility for prospective pro wrestlers in the Enfield area in 2019.

“The launch of WWE’s UK Performance Center in 2019 saw the roots of NXT UK firmly grounded in Enfield and through this partnership we are thrilled to continue supporting the Enfield community,” said WWE vice-president international Michael Levin in a story on WWE.com. “Enfield Town FC and WWE share an intrinsic value of putting fans at the heart of everything we do, a vision of supporting the next generation of talent in sport and entertainment, and a goal of putting smiles on the faces of our fans.”

“For a fan-owned club committed to delivering a sense of community and entertainment to the local area, to have a partner with the magnitude and ethos of WWE is truly special,” added Enfield Town chairman Paul Reed in the same article. “Our vision is one of inclusivity and equality for all and to be a social centre for Enfield, and we welcome NXT UK as part of the family in our 20th Anniversary year.”

Enfield Town defender Jeremiah Gyebi (centre) models the club’s new home kit with the NXT UK logo, while flanked by teammates (in purple pinnies) and NXT UK wrestlers (L-R) Eddie Dennis, Dani Luna, women’s champion Meiko Satomura, Sam Gradwell and Levi Muir.

Enfield Town’s home kits for 2021-22 are manufactured by Terrace and are predominantly white with a blue sash. There is a tonal blue pattern inside the sash, and the borders of the sash include rainbow colours. The V-neck collar sleeve cuffs are blue, with a rainbow tag on each sleeve cuff. The tape inside the collar reads “100% FAN OWNED – NO TO RACISM – YES TO INCLUSIVITY”.

This isn’t the only high-profile kit sponsorship deal to be signed in lower-tier English football this year. In May, pop superstar Ed Sheeran signed on to sponsor his hometown club, Ipswich Town, and have the logo of his upcoming tour on the front of the club’s kits.

Enfield Town will wear the new kits for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 21, when they host Brightlingsea Regent.
