The ‘Latest & Greatest’…

We probably must include ‘Uniform Upgrades & Program Rebranding’ as a sub-segment of the ‘NCAA Athletic Department Arms Race’

All these modernized, branding trends ushered in by Nike & Adidas, did seem to be led, steered & accelerated by Phil Knight’s puppeteering of his personal Guinea Pig/plaything, the University of Oregon Football Team.

Nevertheless, the football uniform rebranding ‘movement’ was (arguably) began just BEFORE Oregon unveiled new gear in the early 00’s, when Miami-Florida Football dipped a BIG Toe into unconventional uniforms.

The Canes’ were genuinely ahead of the curve when they rolled out in multicolored, trim-fit unis, w/unconventional font & stylistics (Remember Ken Dorsey’s Jersey #11, w/doubled-up, crazy-looking “pipe deliminator”, vertical slash ||’s?)

In any case, Fresno’s Blacks’ are a little ‘muddy’ looking. ‘All-Blacks’ are ‘never-not’ embraced by vast majority of fans, especially those WEARING THE UNI’S & prospective recruits, ect….seriously, the stuff FLIES off the shelves once a school releases these sorts of Uni’s & so-called crazy costumes.

Astonished that a large number of folks ‘don’t get’ the bigger picture with all this….does it TRULY concern Nike that a 36 year old dude like myself dislikes the overall trends, which ‘abandon tradition’?

I think not. In fact, the more a large group of cantankerous, uptight ‘do-gooders’ explicate from our collective soapbox about the outlandishness of ‘costume uniforms’, ect….the more ‘Top-of-mind-awareness’ (T-O-M-A, age-old advertising strategy), fuels ‘buzz’ about the new product.

Reportedly, the merchandising explosion that occurs with such unveilings drives up appeal, particularly with those 17-22 year olds who inexorably clamor for new gear – this is honestly, where the rubber meets the road

Always bound to entirely outweighing the trivial bellyaches of the handful of ‘Drunk Uncle’s” …. apparently, a professed isolated few ‘so disgusted’ they won’t renew Season Tix?

(Might miss out on a special season in Fresneck, partner….& you just penalized YOURSELF from it….all cause you don’t like the Uniforms?)

More likely that these teams/programs w/new gear gain a new face here and there from buzz created by re-branding.

The Beavers jumped in the ring with new 2013 gear…. with dozens & dozens of new outlandish uniform/helmet combos….I’m not giving up MY Priority Seating, especially if I “just can’t stand Metalic Orange Helmets”…

If I gave up our seats, there’s a lotta folks ready to take our spot…we wouldn’t be missed.

All that said, I ONLY have 1 small beef (and it IS small), with College Athletics Uniform changes – which has origins in my own entirely, hopelessly nepotistic perspective as an Oregon State Alum & ‘BFL’ (Beaver-For-Life).

It never fails to elicit a twinge of annoyance when – for argument sake – OREGON, rolls out in ALL BLACKS.

Oregon colors are Green & Yellow.

Clearly, my Beaver loyalties influence this point first & foremost, since our Alma Mater, OSU was wearing All-Blacks in the 50’s – decades before it was fashionable (‘Black Bandits of Benton County.)

Whenever we hear Arizona State or Utah or Washington is rollin out some new Uni’s, odds are, it’ll have a BLACK combo therein.

Besides that, If kids like seeing new combos & gear,

We all have to believe the technicolor gear will keep getting wilder & more outlandish each year.

Nike makes the worst uniforms? Did you not see Georgia Tech’s uniforms from the last season, or Southern Miss’ new uniforms? Those were made by Russell

NO ONE WILL CARE. Good riddance.

SO TRUE! Never thought of that before despite being a big DW fan and loving College Football…
