In honour the men and women of the United States military, the Washington Wizards have unveiled a new stars-and-stripes themed alternate uniform.
The new look, which will be worn six times (once per month) during the upcoming 2016-17 NBA season, is white with “Washington” across the chest, a blue field featuring white stars goes up each the side of the jersey, the shorts have a red and white stripe, when worn together you can see the U.S. flag-esque stars-and-stripes look they were going for.
For each game the uniform will be worn the Wizards will highlight a different branch of the military, the full schedule of games (and the branch honoured) is listed below:
November 11th vs Cleveland – National Guard
December 14th vs Charlotte – Air Force
January 18th vs Memphis – Marines
February 10th vs Indiana – Army
March 15th vs Dallas – Coast Guard
April 4th vs Charlotte – Navy
These games will see 100 tickets donated to military families of the branch being recognized and there will be an on-court recognition of a current or former military service member. There was no mention in the press release about any proceeds from the sales of these jerseys going to veteran-related charities.
